Character Limits and Login Rules for Users

Logins, names and codes in TimeWorksPlus have some minimum and maximum character limits. This article identifies those limits as well as additional requirements. While it's unusual to exceed these limits, sometimes hyphenated names can be a problem. Also, non-unique logins and IDs will also cause errors. To avoid import errors, it is advised to check your data against these parameters.

Employee Code - also known as Employee ID
  • Must be unique within the account.
  • Not required, but strongly recommended to be included in the initial import.
  • Min - 1 alphanumeric character.
  • Max - 10 characters. It can be more than 10 characters, but if you are using TimeSimplicity, only the first 10 characters will be passed through the integration. That can cause problems if two employees share the same first 10 characters in their Employee Code.
Employee First and Last Name
  • Min - 1 character.
  • Max - 50 characters (each).
  • Required when importing employees.
Employee Login / Clock Numbers - These are used for clocking in and out, viewing the time card, accessing ESS as well as using TimeWorksMobile.
  • Min 1 alphanumeric character. Symbols like '@' can be included.
  • Max 25 characters
  • IMPORTANT: For WebClock, Mobile and ESS access, the login and password combination must be unique among all Swipeclock users. So a login and password combo like jsmith / Password1 is not likely to work.
Password - This includes passwords for employees as well as supervisors and managers.
  • Min - 8 alphanumeric characters.
  • Max - 50 characters.
  • Must have 2 distinct character types, i.e. lower case and upper case, letter and number.
  • Must not be re-set to the same thing as the initial password.
  • IMPORTANT: The login and password combination must be unique among all Swipeclock users. So a login combination like jsmith / Password1 is not likely to work.
Supervisor and Client Logins
  • Min 3 alphanumeric characters. Symbols like '@' can be included.
  • Max 20, 10 if using TimeSimplicity. TimeSimplicity only imports the first 10 characters of a Supervisor or Client login as the TimeSimplicity ID. For this reason, the first 10 characters of the login cannot be the same as the first 10 of another manager login or an Employee Code.
  • Must be unique among all Swipeclock managers. So logins like jsmith are not likely to work.
