Setting Static IP / DHCP on Clock

Last Updated: Apr 20, 2017 05:00PM MDT
Our Ethernet clocks (Z clocks and GT-400), like any network device, require an IP address to operate on your client's network. Most network routers support a feature called DHCP that the clock uses to automatically detect network configuration settings. However, some networks require a static IP address to be assigned to any network device.

This article explains how to switch the clock from DHCP to static IP and from static IP to DHCP.

You should consult your client's IT department to determine which mode is necessary for the clock. Keep in mind, the clocks are set to DHCP by default.

What is the current network setting on the clock?

If you want to determine how the clock is currently set:
  1. Access the clock's network settings with the instructions that correspond to your clock model:
  • Z11, Z14, Z33, Z34, - Press the * key
  • Z18 - Press the MENU key twice
  •  GT-400 - Press the CAPS button
  • You may also be able to access the page by pressing the # key twice
  1. Enter 2663 then the ENTER or OK key
  2. On the next page, press to view the TCP/IP Settings. The following screen will tell you if the clock is using DHCP or a static IP.
  3. Select 1 - Show Lease to view the current IP, Netmask, Gateway, and 2 DNS IP's if needed.

Change from DHCP to Static IP

  1. Follow steps 1-3 from above.
  2. Press 2 to change the network setting.
  3. Enter the IP address per the screen's instructions. Be advised that you will also be asked for a Subnet Mask and Default Gateway, DNS Servers and an optional Alternate DNS Server.

Change from Static IP to DHCP

If the clock is set to use a static IP and you want to change back to using DHCP, doing so will wipe out all static IP information.
  3. Press 2 to change the network setting and enable autoconfig(DHCP)
