Updating FlexClock Software

  1. First ensure that the clock will not be touched during this process as it can take up to 10 minutes to complete.
  2. Press 9 to start a manual transmit, then immediately press 1 to clock IN.
  3. Enter 873283757 (which spells "update757") then the Enter key (or the OK key) to save a punch. If you have any prompts configured, just provide any answer that gets you past the prompt. The clock should say Clock In Successful.
  4. Then press the 9 key to transmit.
This code is not so much a feature of the clock, but a feature of our server. This number has a special meaning to our server. When it sees a punch arrive with this number, it checks to see if there is a newer software release available for the clock, and sends it if available.

IMPORTANT: On the Vx570 FlexClocks they will need an "On-Board Software Version" of at least 757.2.002 or higher to use this feature. This can be verified by going to Administration > Verify Transmit or Clock Status and clicking on the link for the clocks serial number. If not they will need to update the software using either the USB or Analog phone methods later on in this article.

Due to size and bandwidth constraints, cellular clocks (Vx510g and 610g) cannot download software updates over the cellular connection. You should connect a land line and force the clock to transmit over the land line by temporarily removing the antenna

Updating FlexClock Vx570 Software ONLY via USB

NOTE: THIS IS FOR JUST UPDATING THE SOFTWARE TO THE LATEST VERSION ONLY. IT WILL NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. IF YOU NEED TO UPDATE BOTH, SEE FlexClock - Firmware and Software USB Upgrade.

These directions apply ONLY to FlexClock model Vx570, as it is the only supported VeriFone model with a USB port.

You will also need to add the latest software file 'as is' on a USB memory stick. Make sure this 'verifone.zip' file is the only thing on the USB stick. At the bottom of this article is the latest software '757.2.105' (199 KB) as of April 2010. **BUT ALWAYS CONTACT SUPPORT TO ENSURE THE VERSION YOU DOWNLOAD IS THE CURRENT ONE.**

The clock cannot be used for punches during this process. Any punches in memory may be lost. To preserve the punches, please transmit them. If you are having problems transmitting, use the alternate connection method available (i.e. Dialup if unable to transmit via Ethernet).
  1. Press F2+F4 If they have issues with say a "TAMPERED" message and the keypad does not respond to presses have them unplug the clock then plug it back in and as it is powering/booting up continually/repeatedly press the F2+F4. What we are trying to do is have the system boot directly to the settings menu and not to the clocks software.
  2. Enter the password 1 <ALPHA> <ALPHA> 66831 then the green ENTER key
  3. Choose DOWNLOAD. That option may not be on the first page, so scroll down using the purple keys if needed.  Choose these settings in this order:
  4. Group 1 <ENTER>
  5. Password: 1 <ALPHA> <ALPHA> 66831 then the green ENTER key
  6. SINGLE - APP F3
  7. PARTIAL F4
  8. Scroll down using the purple key to 'USB FLASH MEMORY F3 and select the button next to it.
  9. Press the F4 key where it says 'CONTINUE' then F3 or YES. It will then go through the process of downloading the files from the USB to the clock.
  10. Once the download is done it will then ask you to remove the USB Memory Stick. Once you have done so press the green ENTER key and then either press F4 to 'RESTART' or unplug then plug back in the power cable.
It will then go through the process of updating the software then go back to the date and time screen to allow people to again use the clock to make in/out punches.

Updating FlexClock Vx570 Firmware and Software via USB

These instructions only apply to the FlexClock model Vx570.

To update or install the latest software AND firmware into the FlexClock using a Flash Drive follow the directions below:

**NOTE: IF YOU ARE JUST UPDATING THE SOFTWARE TO THE LATEST AND NOT THE FIRMWARE ALSO THEN SEE Updating FlexClock Vx570 Software ONLY via USB.

Things you will need:
  • A PC/computerboth
  • Verifone VX570 and power adapter both
  • USB Flash Drive (Memory Stick) with at least 256MB of storage space.
  • The update files from our Support Department. More on this below.

Part 1 PC Procedure:
If you do not already have a copy of the upgrade files please submit a support ticket and we will be able to e-mail you the files required for this procedure.

Once you receive the .zip file there should be two different updates, both are in .zip files called by the same name (VERIFONE.ZIP) in two different folders (Update #1 and Update #2), as well as instructions in two README files, one in English and one in Spanish.

You can check the size of the different VERIFONE.ZIP files as a reference:

File #1 (Firmware): 579 KB approximately. VERIFONE.ZIP
File #2 (Software): 199 KB approximately. verifone.zip

Updates need to be installed on the USB one at a time starting with File #1 then File #2 next. There cannot be any other data on the USB drive or you may run into issues with the update.

**IF YOU USE SPECIFIC IP/ETHERNET SETTINGS PLEASE PRESS THE PURPLE KEY ON THE LEFT AND AND TYPE IN CONF (2663), PRESS MAINTAIN F2, AND IF THE IP OR ANY OTHER PARAMETER IS SET TO SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN 0.0.0.0 THEN WRITE DOWN THE SETTINGS AS YOU WILL NEED TO RE-APPLY THESE SETTINGS AFTER THE UPDATE.**

FlexClock Prep
What we want to do first is make sure all punches on the clock are transmitted as this process will wipe the clock of its memory to make the process of updating easier.

To clear the memory on the clock and prep it for the updates:
  1. Press the F2 + F4 keys on the right side of the clock.
  2. Enter the password 1 <ALPHA> <ALPHA> 66831 then the Green Enter Key.
  3. Arrow down using the purple key second from the left. till you get to the option 'MEMORY FUNCTIONS F2' from there press the F2 key on the right.
  4. Press F4 next to 'CLEAR MEM 'then the green Enter key.
  5. Enter the password 1 <ALPHA> <ALPHA> 66831 then the Green Enter Key.
  6. Then F4 next to 'CLEAR ALL GROUPS' and F4 'CONFIRM'
  7. Next press the red Cancel button then arrow up (with the left most purple key) till it says 'RESTART' and click the Function button next to it F4.
If this was done correctly you will get the message 'DOWNLOAD NEEDED *GO FILE NOT FOUND' and you should be able to start installing the (Software) update files.

Firmware UPDATE #1
The first one comes from VERIFONE directly.

To install it, go to the folder called 'Update #1 Verifone Firmware Update' and put the file called VERIFONE.ZIP on a USB flash drive.

Note: It MUST be called VERIFONE.ZIP on the flash memory for it to be read by the clock. Do not unzip the file or take the contents out. Just copy the entire ZIP file to the flash memory – the clock will unzip it by itself.

Next follow the prompts to install the files off of the USB stick.

When it is complete remove the USB as instructed then hit the green Enter key and it should reboot and give you again the message 'DOWNLOAD NEEDED *GO FILE NOT FOUND' and you should be able to start installing the next (Software) update files.

Software UPDATE #2
Next look for the folder 'Update #2 FlexClock Software Update 757.2.101' Likewise it should have file in there called 'VERIFONE.ZIP' and must be put on a flash memory stick the same way.

You can use the same USB from Update #1, simply delete the first VERIFONE.ZIP file, or just drag and drop it onto the memory stick and when asked if you want to overwrite the file select yes.

Do not use a different folder or rename the second file to store both files at the same time. If you do this, the update won't succeed.

Next follow the prompts to install the files off of the USB stick.

When it is complete remove the USB as instructed then hit the green Enter key and it should reboot to install and complete the process.

Once it is done if you had certain internet settings like a static IP you will again have to enable Ethernet (Internet on the Clock) like in the instructions for the initial setup which can be found here FlexClock - LAN/Ethernet Initial Setup.

(**PLEASE CONFIRM LATEST FIRMWARE AND SOFTWARE WITH SUPPORT BEFORE USING THIS FILE**):

Currently Firmware version is 757.2.101 and should show in Clock Status / Verify Transmit if it is the latest.

**Also if you have a PrintReader attached you may have to restart the FlexClock once more to have it re-associate the PrintReader to the FlexClock. If it wasn't associated it will ask you to do a manual transmit to download the prints once again from the server.

**NOTE: Some terminals we’ve sold might have a password of “1”, “8086”, “8086 alpha” instead of 1 alpha alpha 66831.

Firmware and Software Upgrade through Analog Phone Line
